Life at Kantar, according to Ndeye

Ndeye looks after our Insights business in West Africa, spanning across Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal. Having been with Kantar for 13 years, she’s worked through various iterations of our brand as well as evolved through a number of different roles and geographies. We spent some time with her to find out what Life at Kantar means to her.

You’ve been with the business for a while; what’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on?
One of the most fun projects has been our own / exclusive Africa Life study, an insights program and a gift that keeps on giving! It’s an insights exploration journey about Africa that keeps expanding in terms of scope and number of Kantar experts involved and which keeps winning new clients! It’s taken me to multiple parts of Africa and the world and has offered us, as Kantar Africa team, a global platform to showcase the work we do, and the love we have for what we do. Magic!

What is the best thing about your job?
This is a difficult question! What I like about my job is precisely the opportunity to move across different categories: from food to beauty to baby nutrition to tech to… entertainment and leisure services! It’s varied, colourful, insightful, and fun!

I love the magnitude of the knowledge that my work offers me, the variety of sectors that we explore, the depth of understanding we can get about the markets and industries we work on… and of course the partnership we build with the great and prestigious brands out there. There’s always something new to learn, and there’s always established things we can look at differently and offer newer/fresher perspectives about.

Does your role mean you get to have a good balance between work and home?
My current role and location are the perfect demonstration of the flexibility that Kantar advocates and offers. A big part of my work is done remotely today, and I meet my team and client as and when needed. I feel privileged to work with mature colleagues and clients who meet in-person as needed and work effectively from anywhere.

Outside work, I am a mom of 4. I have 2 generations of kids at home: Gen Z and Gen Alpha. It goes without saying that this is a lot of work, which I can do well only if things are balanced and fulfilling workwise. It’s inspiring to work in an environment that puts an immense focus on wellness and fulfilment on all sides.

What is it that keeps your working here?
The reason why I have stayed working at Kantar is a combination of all that I’ve said above: our collective performance culture and what this offers me and each one of us: an opportunity to excel and the tools for this; the variety of things we explore and learn about, the great talent that we work with internally and among our client partners, all of this manifesting into tangible career growth for me over the years.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of joining the business?
Believe in yourself and be willing to leave an impact. You have the power to do so! Our company has evolved immensely over the past few years and will continue to do so. The great thing about this, is that there’s a lot to do, to re-model, inspire and create. You have the power to make a massive positive impact on the company and on yourself as a professional. Don’t let it go.
